The mandala circle is made up of images of fruit such as apples, strawberries and lemons and is repeated around the mug three times so that it is visible from all 360 degree angles. This elegant porcelain mug will make a welcome house warming, birthday or Christmas gift for someone who likes colourful and yet calming images. The word ‘mandala’ means ‘circle’ and in Hinduism and Buddhism has a spiritual and ritual representation of the universe. I love Mandalas and I wanted to create something different. I was eating my usual fruit salad for breakfast when I had the idea to draw a fruit mandala. The design is fresh and energising which would add cheer into any room, especially a kitchen or dining space.
To create this colourful & detailed illustration I used acrylic paints, coloured pencils and inks on mixed media paper. The pencils I used are wonderfully soft and blend beautifully with the inks that bring out a touch of crisp vibrancy to this piece. The white background gives the design a fresh clean look.
